La Quinta, Riverside County
La Quinta is one of the few cities in the country named for a hotel. The La Quinta Resort opened in 1926 as a cluster of adobe casitas in a cove of the Santa Rosa Mountains, and Hollywood figures such as director Frank Capra made it a regular retreat. The city incorporated in 1982 and is known for its golf courses, including those at PGA West.
